I have more than 100 of them, and the only one that i still use on a regular basis while mixing is Q-clone.
I dont want extra layers, extra latency, etc... I just want one system. Thats it. So for me, no more Waves. Plenty of other interesting options out there.
I used to think the same. But I started thinking again... With DLS the latency of Waves plugins is minimal and you can use them on auxes without introducing additional latency that comes when using native plugins. I think DLS or DLI with Impact is a good solution for HDX owners. It doesn't cost much and you get an option of low latency processing with some external DSP. Doesn't seem like a bad idea at all.

Then there is the compatibility with many desks and their quality I/Os. Asides from the DSP aspect, the Focusrite REDs also do a similar thing over ethernet, has anyone managed to compare systems??

I can understand the whole AAX-DSP issue for some, but for those who haven't yet gone down that path it may not be as much of an issue. My guess is that Waves was working on their product line at the time HDX was announced, and wasn't going to spend extra time developing for a system they were already addressing with their more portable solution.

I'm not entirely sure that AAX-DSP is worth the investment, but if you already have invested, then it's a different story.
HDX is a viable investment if you need be able to do low latency monitring. We absolutely need it for recording in the "mix as you go" scenario. There is absolutely no other way to do this except with a DSP based system.

Soundgrid predated HDX. It supports most Sonnox, many Flux and several Plug-in Alliance products in addition to all of the waves plugs. I have an IOS that I use for webcasting and the occasional live recording I do.

Yes this is true, unless you do analogue. Although, if you have small enough tracking session a Thunderbolt interface could be another option as well, running low latency plugins. But that option is more for the personal studio, not for tracking a band.

Yeah, those other devs are gettin in on SoundGrid too, although I wished Plugin Alliance would hurry up with bringing out some more. If that were to happen I might actually make the move.
