I agree with everything except the last one.
Unless you are leaving out HDN.
Thats due to the internal computer sound chip.

I think you missed my point. Original HD got a replacement rather soon and here we are thinking whether HDX accel or whatever is coming or not

Bob's idea makes sense. Like in live sound it would have to be a chassis built using an existing protocol like Dante/Madi/AES50/etc. to connect to a PC/Mac. if not maybe a thunderbolt 3 box like the native one but with embedded DSP.. or not.

That'd be great :) sadly, PC world still hasn't adopted TB widely enough that the cross-platform PT could fully support it...

PC has adopted TB3 big-time and it's built into the latest generation of Intel CPUs. There were serious security issues with TB1 and 2 that led Microsoft to hold off on official support. That said, there is also blindingly fast Ethernet available.

Very interesting concept. Kind of made me think of Radar, but hopefully for Mac also . Any thoughts on where HD Native might go ?

Good to hear. I'm not that good with PC hardware as I'm kind of a Mac-only person...

HD Native is the main Pro Tools system. There probably will be a TB 3 version but the interfaces are open at this point. It could also work with Ethernet. SMPTE finally settled on an AVB standard for audio and video so that could be where it all ends up.
