Default Upgrade to 8 question

I have been travelling for most of the year and just got back. I am currently running 7.1.1 and need to upgrade so I can use PT with the new OS's. I am just wondering can I just buy the PT8 upgrade and will it work, or do I need to buy the upgrades in between like 7.4 first?

It seems the common misconception going around is that PT8 is an "upgrade." I think Digi needs to stop using that word so often.

You can install 8.0 all by itself... in fact, it's better to uninstall the old version first.

In fact, you NEED to uninstall any older version first. The instructions are pretty clear and you should be good if you follow them. I think you will find PT8 to be a serious step up(once you hear the new VI plugs and get your head around Elastic Audio)

Ok, Thanks. Now would I have to reinstall all my plugins again or will they stay on the computer and be found by the new PT installation? I've moved a couple times and cant be sure I have all my serial numbers and things like that. Im assuming plugins on my Ilok would be fine.

Plugs will remain as is... U'll of course get a new authorization for PT8...

If u decide the then update to the .1 release & u have a toolkit, I'd suggest that u re-install that & there WILL be some plugs that u WILL NEED to update...
