Default GPS for \"Recording\" Light

Hi all
We'd like to install a "Recording" light outside our ADR stage door. I've seen the commercially available ones, they look great and are just the ticket. I believe the Sync IO has a GPS (?) "port" (?) or some feature specifically for this purpose. Does that mean that I need no other gear besides the light? How is the light wired to the Sync IO so as to turn on when in "Record"? And why, given that this "Light goes on when in 'Record' " technology has been around for a zillion years don't I know this already?

Thanks in advance!

It´s called a GPI port. General purpose interface.

You can check out the Punchlight. A simple light connected via MIDI that reads MMC. Goes into yellow during pre-roll and switches to red when recording..

http://www.punchlight.com/

You don´t even need a SYNC I/O to use it. Just any cheap midi-interface will do.

But that company also offers one for the GPI-port if you prefer that.

Frank.

ProTools is one of the few "pro" audio DAW that offers a GPI port that you can´t actually program.

I think it only offers fixed fader-start features and that´s it.

Sad.

Frank.

That's exactly the one I want as well. How does it hook up? Do I need to be an electrical engineer to do it?

Thanks!

http://akwww.digidesign.com/support/...IO%20Guide.pdf
pg 84 relays
pg 87/88
pg 90

w/ the info it should be posable to build your own relay system for what ever light you want

I'm thinking this for record:
