Default DIGI 002-Optical Input...use?

Hello to Everyone;

Question? Can the Digi002 ADAT Optical I/O be used to connect to an Apple Power Mac Dual-core 2.0GHz, instead of the Firewire? I know that this may seem to be an odd question, but hey I think out/inside the box from time to time. I will be making the purchase within the next week and was just wondering if this was possiable or not.

Thanks for your feedback/input in advance.

Slim,

Thanks for your reply... I was only wondering because I was able to use the S/PDIF Output o my MBox 2, conected to the coaxial on the back of my Roland DM-10 and get digital sound through them.
How can I use eithier the Optical IN/OUT on the back of my DIGI002 (got it Friday....yeaaah, happy, happy, joy, joy... and I kept my MBox 2, to take to clients, who don't have PROTools...go figure) , with the Opticals on the back of my G5.

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

You can connect the lightpipe to your powermac, but The firewire is THE connection between the 002 and your mac.

Just like the usbcable is for your MboxII.

Connecting the lightpipe and setting the in and outputs of those to s/pdif instead of adat will result in digital in and out from and to your mac.

But beware!

If you want to record any digital sound produced by your mac or any program running you will get full sound through the lightpipe, thus also all your (unwanted) computersounds...

Thus it's only a digital audio connection.

Succes!!

I appolowgze, after re-reading my question, I see that I stated what I wanted to do incorrectly. This is my goal:

Q: How can I connect my Roland DM-10 monitors, eithier using the Digital IN Coaxail or Optical IN on the back of the monitors, to produce audio sound coming from the S/PDIF or Coaxial outputs of the DIGI002?

The Rolands have the settings for both and I was able to make this work using the S/PDIF output on the back of the MBox 2, but as of yet I have not been able to do this on the DIGI002.

Any help would be Greatly apprechated.

Thanks once again to all, who reply.

You just hook it up and it should work. I think on the MBox, it automatically mirrors the analog outputs to the SP/DIF outs, but the 002 does not, so you need to change your outputs from "Analog 1-2" or whatever you're using to SPDIF.

Thanks. I just decided to route all my monitors through the Mackie Bigknob, that way I have total control w/o changing any of my routings. I have an Pansonic surround system(front) hooked up to the ALT Unbal.Output on the back of the Digi002, the Optical out to the Optical in on the back of my G5 and the Coaxail out going to the Coaxial in on the back of the Roland DM-10, for digital control, and the Analog control comes from the Mackie Bigknob, so now I have total sound control over everything.

Q: I am thinking of picking up the Yahama's HS80M 8" to eithier go into my vocal booth for the artist playback, or eithier out side right next to the booth on stands for rear-reference playback.
I want to know how and if these are being used in your studio's?

Once again thanks to everyone for your feedback.
