Figured this out...

I just got a new mac and Apple likes to hide your hard disk which PT can't handle. So

Before Installing Pro Tools
1st - Go to the finder preferences, and select show Hard Disks on the desk top and also for the side bar. if you don't you may end up having a LOT of problems. Including no templates, presets and crashing on load due to a Workspace.wksp problem...

2nd - Install pro tools before anything else so that it gets all of its folders set up. I had installed my UA apollo first, which created a Pro Tools folder in the same place that the installer creates one. I guess when this happens the pro tools installer thinks that it already installed everything in that folder. Which included session templates AND plug in settings. Which i had neither of.

3rd - install your interface and any 3rd party plugs. I'm hoping I don't have any more issues but i'll post if i come across any more problems with 12.

This may be old news to some and if you're not setting up a new system you will probably be fine. It's pretty ridiculous that they haven't fixed this issue for PT 12. It seems it's been a thorn in peoples sides for a while now. Get with it avid.

Thanks for posting this info. I was also able to get the Session Templates option to work by just creating a folder named Session Templates in the Pro Tools folder in the documents section of the User area.

User > current user > Documents > Pro Tools > Session Templates

We're running the new "El Capitan" OSX software and encountered the same "line 199" problem.

We're using the new Apollo 8p and it has been running smoothly with PT12.3.1.

Very, very good to find this thread.
Thanks for sharing this folks.
One question, Can I just copy my PT 11 plugin settings into a "self made" session plugins folder on the main rig?
IE, I don't have v12 plugin settings any where?

Hey everyone, just found this thread since I've been having exact same issues with my newly installed PT 12.7.1.
CKSFX - thanks very much for your troubleshooting. I have exact same setup as you with UA Apollo Twin Duo and it seems like same issue occurred.

I just got a new mac and Apple likes to hide your hard disk which PT can't handle. So Exactly same as me!

Before I reinstall my entire system from scratch, which is a pain, I wonder if there's a work around. Few things that has happened to me and hope you can help:
1. My Documents Folder only has - Pro Tools > Plug-in Settings - which only has UAD plugin presets in it.

2. In PT preferences - Operations - User Media and Setting Location - there seems to be directory paths to (Documentation and Settings ; Project Media Cache ; Sound Libraries), which do not seem to exist anywhere. This is pretty concerning obviously.

3. On PT start up - Templates option is greyed-out, which probably means that this directory doesn't exist also.

So from above issues I wonder what else that hasn't been installed with PT installation? Do you know exactly what my Documents Folder "should look like"?

I did locate my PT plugins in Hard Drive > Library > Application Support > Avid > Plug-Ins

So at this point I am leaning towards reinstalling everything from scratch, with PT12 firstly, then UA Interface etc, as CKSFX mentioned above.

Any suggestions would be awesome!
Cheers

Hey guys...Update....
Upon moving my UAD plugin settings folder from Documents > Pro Tools to another Universal Audio Folder, magically all my PT folders appeared in before mentioned Pro Tools folder - such as (Project Cache ; Session Templates etc..)
Weird....
