Default Always Calculating Waverform Overviews

Since upgrading to PT 12 several months ago I haven't had any issues. In fact, it's been great!

However, since the latest update PT is forgetting the previously drawn waveform overviews completely killing my sessions. As some of my clips are over an hour long (one of the things I do is work on podcasts) it can take over an hour to re-draw.

Why is this happening? How can I prevent this from happening again?

It is random and inconsistent. I cannot recreate the problem intentionally. It will happen in the middle of editing. It will happen after recording.

I've read the posts from the past regarding previous versions with similar issues and as far as I can tell my system is set up correctly.

I use an external HDD formatted to OS X Extended (Journaled) for my PT sessions.

Thank you!

I'm sorry! I had put all the information in my profile when I created the account. I just assumed it would be in the signature.

I've had this issue as well, and it coincides with any time I mount my external recorder (MR2000S) as a USB drive. The second it mounts, half of my waveforms disappear and PT immediately starts regenerating them. It's a real drag because I print a mix to my machine, mount it as USB to transfer the DFF file over to my Master Mix folder, and I end up having to quit the mixed session file before it recalculates waveform overviews... I can't wait around for it to do that, I've gotta get on to the next song.

I'm also on PTHD 12.8.0, and MacOS 10.12.5 on a Late-2012 MacPro with upgraded dual 6-core CPU's (12 cores with HT), and 48GB of RAM. I've allocated 12GB as Ram Cache. Playback engine is HDX with 1024 Samples of Hardware Buffer.

Do you start from a session template? If yes, then PT puts (sometimes) the waveform cache into the template folder. To avoid this, create the session from template, save it, close it, then open it again and then the cache is where it should be.

This is happening inside older sessions. My work flow includes swapping out the interview audio of the podcasts while the other tracks have all the components in place (music, voice over, etc.). I've tried saving as a new session and it doesn't help.

I've seen this too... coincides with mounting a drive... pinwheels the session then starts recalculating... new in 12.8

can't remember if it happens with network drives as well or just externals...

That makes sense, but I cannot figure why it's happening while I'm in my session. The HDD is not un-mounting and re-mounting while I have the session open (to the best of my knowledge). The waveform calculation just *happens* while I'm in the middle of editing.

I'll try running the session from a Firewire drive instead of USB and see if that helps eliminate the problem.

Thank you!

I get this kind of behavior sometimes and it confuses my Sync backup program, because when redrawing it changes the modification date of most of the files. This lengthens the backup process as it rewrites files that were untouched
