Pro Tools First error -6117

Good news is, I got rid of the dreaded -6117 loop. Bad news is, I'm still not sure what actually caused the problem in the first place.

Here's what I did;

- Completely un-installed PT|First (including Application Manager, plug-ins, project cache, everything)
- Thrashed every single file and folder that contained 'Avid' or 'Pro Tools'.
- Ran CCleaner to get rid of anything left behind.
- Re-installed ASIO4all
- Re-installed the latest version of PT|First

That did the trick.

Additional tip for users on PC;

- Right-click on the white speaker icon located in the system tray on the Windows task bar near the clock.

- Choose Playback Devices

- Select the audio device that you would like to adjust

- Click Properties

- Choose the Advanced tab

- Uncheck the 'Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device' box (both boxes will be disabled now)

- Click OK.

- Repeat these steps for any additional devices on the Playback tab

- Repeat these steps for any devices listed on the Recording tab.

- Reboot your computer to affect the changes.

I also have the same problem. Win7, PT First. I believe I have tried all the above-mentioned remedies. ASIO4ALL, reinstall, N at upstart, etc.

When I start PT First I get:
"AAE error -6117 was encountered"

"The selected audio device could not be initialized. Please choose another audio device."

How do I choose another Audio Device?

Brand new to PT First as of two days ago, same issue, find all these threads, and then your comment was icing on the cake. I wanted to switch to PT after using Sonar for the past 15 years, I really did...now... well....we'll see

FYI;

AAE error -6117 returned after connecting a new interface (Focusrite Scarlett 2i4)

Did a quick repair install of PT|First and all was good again.

Best advice for ASIO4ALL anot get that PT -6117 error...

Be sure to have install ASIO4ALL before any other software including Pro Tools.
