Default Floating Point/ Fixed Point/ Dither

For some reason I've had a rash recently of people asking me about floating point/fixed point processing and dither. I wrote an essay last night that addresses some issues so that I didn't have to continually retype the same replies - also so I could incorporate some helpful graphics. This forum generally has people that are interested in this type of thing so I thought I'd throw it up here for the perusal of the parties who relish this type of stuff.

Cheers!

Thank you Nika for the well stated explanation. I'll finally have some ammunition when discussing the alleged 'inferiority' of PT's fixed point processing with the guys from AMS-Neve.

This kind of contribution is what makes this board a useful resource.

Thanks again,

Nika, you must be a very wise man!! Thanks for taking the time to explain this to us mortals... I still don't get it, but I'll keep reading, over and over!

Best Regards (and respect)

Tubz
