Need advice on overdubbing midi drums parts
I'm recording the drums using midi keyboard controller using Superior Drummer 2.2.3.with PTHD8.
Say I record bass drum and snare drum part and later add hi hat, cymbal crash or toms fills, recording over the existing parts. Thanks |

Re: Need advice on overdubbing midi drums parts
You need to make a choice here. If you use Midi Merge, so you can play one part at a time, then overdubbing is not so easy. To overdub, you would normally NOT use midi merge, so that the new playing over-writes the old. I would suggest getting your parts close in recording, and then editing the midi. Its rather easy to move midi notes around, remove some or add new ones with editing.

Re: Need advice on overdubbing midi drums parts
The midi merge button is in the main transport window. It looks like 2 arrows that become one. When this is pressed (lit up in blue), then you can keep adding to what you've already done (as in, you do kick, then go back and add snare, then hi hat, etc.).
When this button is off (not lit up in blue), then it behaves like it's an audio track, where each time you go back, it erases what you did. For what you're trying to do, you want to have midi merge on. You can go back later and move or edit the notes, as Albee mentioned. |
