Default restricting plug-ins from loading

hi i was wondering if there is a way to have pro tools not load up all plugins when it starts and to only add them later when i need them thx

No, there is no selective loading.
You can stop all of them from loading at startup, but otherwise everything in the PT plugin folders will load.

If you stop them from loading, you won't be able to use them in a session later without having to restart Pro Tools. Is there a purpose to this?

This actually does not stop the plugins from loading. It makes every plugin in the session inactive(its a handy way to find out if a plugin is causing a session to crash though). Any plugin that you remove from the Plugins folder will not be loaded(and not available until you put the files back and restart Pro Tools).
