Default PT LE XP 6.4 --> 7 upgrade causes PC to struggle.

Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else after upgrading to ver.7 from 6.4 under XP.

First up, I have been running 6.4 for months on end with little to no glitches or crashes. Its been the ideal system.

Last week I installed the V.7 upgrade. But now whenever I open an OLDER session created in 6.4, the PC's CPU immediately freaks out! Under the Windows Task Manager/Performance TAB/CPU Usage, I can see it maxxing out at 100% CPU usage (and staying there), as well as hearing the CPU fan cranked up to top speed. The performance of the session is almost unworkable in this environment as everyting is is a semi-frozen state. Functionality is reduced to almost nothing.

The minute I close down the session created in 6.4, the CPU begins to calm down and the fan returns to normal.

When creating a new session under V.7 none of these problems are encountered.

Weird or something I just need to get used to?

Regards,
Mike

Strange behavior, I have almost an identical system. I upgraded last weekend for 6.4 to 7.0. So far no problems at all.

Some of the guys with X2 AMD systems started experiencing this also. See a thread just posted today regarding this. Need to make sure Digi is aware of this.

Hey DUCs,

I have ALMOST the same problem on my P4 3 Ghz machine... XP pro, 768 MB RAM, Mbox 1. My problem is very similar to yours, Dishy, but mine has a twist: I can open up SOME projects I have created in 6.9, and SOMETIMES open them up again in PTLE 7 but sometimes not. It's very annoying, especially since I am running a small studio with paying clients. These clients come over to work on stuff and some days I can't even open their projects at all. IT SUCKS!

The times I actually can open these files, I have been trying to look ahead creating several different versions of the file I am working on, but my damn systems chokes on all of them if that's the mood of the day. This makes it impossible to run Pro Tools LE 7 for me in any kind of professional manner, as the friggin' thing is so damn unreliable. What really annoys me is the fact that it does it SOMETIMES, completely at random, which makes it impossible to isolate the problem.

I upgraded to the newest version of PTLE 7 that are to be downloaded from the Digidesign home page but the same error persists. DIGIDESIGN: How far away are you from solving this problem? This was not what I enticipated when I paid 99 bucks for an upgrade...

Please work this one out... soon! / Jonas

Digidesign tech support sucks. Over 3 weeks ago I sent them two emails about this problem and they didn't even bother to reply. Not a word from them and they haven't followed up on this thread either. So I guess they don't really care. To busy serving their high end HD customers I suppose... But if they can't support their low-end products they really shouldn't be selling them.

i have this problem also...

although i found a 2 track increase on my davec 1 test after upgrading to pt7, i am finding that my pc has problems with sessions that 6.7 would deal with just fine.

Are you sure you don't have a spam filter that is blocking their replies? It's a common problem, especially with certain ISPs.

And phone calls always offer better results.

Hi!

Nope, I do get other things from them like "This is an automated reply telling you that we have received you support question..." So I guess they are busy with their TDM clients. Damn i wish I was rich! Thanks though!
