Compacting adds 250GB!!!???
PT Ultimate 2019.10.0
Hi. I have a PT session that comes in at 6.23GB. This includes a 700MB video. I want to upload a copy of this session to my boss. However, there's lots of excess in here, so I want to downsize it without losing any vital audio. So I first do a Save-Copy-In. This ensures that only this clips which are in use will carry over into a brand new session folder. This new session folder is now only 1.93GB. That's only from eliminating files of audio which I did not use. But now I want to do even better. From the audio which I did use, I want to eliminate those portions which aren't in use. For this, I am selecting to "Compact" my audio. But the result is that the session is now a whopping 265.54 GB!!! I deleted it. Went back to the original (6.23GB file) and did another Save-Copy-In. Again, I'm at 1.93GB. This time, I "ungrouped" files (thinking that maybe these were wrecking havoc). But no. Same result! Anyone have any idea how I am making this session 137x bigger??? |

Re: Compacting adds 250GB!!!???
Oh that must hurt, but OTOH it's kinda funny.
What are you using to look at the size? I would look for what the large file actually are on disk and then look at them more to see what is being reported. I would start by running the following command in Terminal, cd to the session audio file folder and run.... $ du -m -s * | sort -n -r This will give sorted list of the file sizes in MB. du is a low level utility that may report data different than the finder. If it's real and only one or a few files you could skip compacting them, etc. |
