HD Interface hardware exchange offer
Just a heads up on this. It looks like this was just announced today. Avid is offering a deal to trade in your old HD interfaces and get $1000 off the new ones.
There's some info in the link, but there may be more options, according to a couple of dealers I talked to. Basically, you trade in an old interface and get $1000 off whichever new one you want. According to the announcement, qualifying interfaces include the 192, 192 digital, and 96 io. But it also says any 3rd party HD compatible device. This would of course include the Lynx Aurora, several of the Apogee units, and others. However, a couple of the dealers I talked to are pretty sure this also includes the much older legacy interfaces, like the 888/24, etc. If that's the case, that could be a really good deal for someone. In some of these cases, like the 192, you might do better to just sell it on your own rather than do this offer. But with the 192 digital or 96 IO, with how much prices have dropped, it might be a good deal. The other thing they mention is that if you trade up to either of the HD IO's (not the Omni), you also get HEAT for free, which is nice. If you're on HD Native, you could still do this and then just sell Heat at a discount to someone. Also, those trading up to the HD Madi can get an additional $500 off if they trade in a second interface. http://www.avid.com/US/special-offer...ies-Interfaces |

Re: HD Interface hardware exchange offer
For a limited time, trade in your old 192 I/O, 192 Digital I/O, or third-party Pro Tools|HD-compatible audio interface towards HD OMNI, HD I/O (8x8x8 or 16x16 Analog), or HD MADI and save $1,000 (USD).

That page makes no mention of the 96.

Re: HD Interface hardware exchange offer
UPDATE:
One of my Sweetwater guys has confirmed with the Avid rep today that both the 96 io and the old 888's will also qualify. It's possible that this may not be the case with all dealers, but it is with them. |

Re: HD Interface hardware exchange offer
I just contacted a local Guitar Center and the rep said I had to buy an HD system, not just the IO, to get the discount. He was probably misinformed but I didn't want to argue with him.

What happens when they change the 192 interface connection to Thunderbolt?

Re: HD Interface hardware exchange offer
The Guitar Center guy is wrong. He might be mixing this special up with another one Avid is running where you get a discount on an HD Native bundle (card and interface) if you already own "regular" Protools.
This is specifically a trade up of an old interface to the new ones, and has nothing to do with whether you currently own a system or not. Though of course you'll need to get some kind of HD system in order to use these. You may want to try another dealer. As for the Thunderbolt thing, I think we'll be more likely to see a Digilink to Thunderbolt adapter, rather than all new interfaces, so I wouldn't worry about that. |

Re: HD Interface hardware exchange offer
Will the new interface work work with an older HD 2 core/Accel PCI card system?

Re: HD Interface hardware exchange offer
Yeah, does it work with PCI running 8.03 on a G5 2.0Ghz?
Also, would an old basic 192 with no extra card 8x8 A/D D/A with 8 channels digital trade up for a new 192 16x16 A/D D/A plus the 1k ???? |

Re: HD Interface hardware exchange offer
The new Avid HD interfaces require Protools HD 8.1 or higher. Nothing beyond 8.0.3 supports Power PC's. So this rules out using the G5.
As for the trade in, it doesn't matter how your 192 is configured, with or without the expansion cards. You simply use it to get $1000 off whichever HD interface you want: The HD 8 x 8, 16 x 16, Omni, or Madi. If you do the trade to either of the HD IO's, you also get HEAT for free (which also requires 8.1 or higher). As I mentioned in a previous post, you may do better to sell the 192 rather than the trade in, as these have been selling for more than $1000. |
