Default Adaptec 8945 Compatibility

I am installing a ProTools 24|MixPlus system on a Macintosh G3/300 desktop(beige). I would like to use the Adaptec 8945 SCSI Accelerator card instead of the 2940UW because of the addition of firewire capabilities that it provides. I can't use two cards without having add a PCI expansion chassis, and the 8945 combines two cards into one. I spoke with Adaptec, and they told me that the 8945 has the exact same chipset as the 2940UW, and that the difference is the addition of the 1394 chipset. Please advise.
