Default Dear Avid, It’s time to open up “ Hardware Inserts “

I appreciate all the new updates to the point I committed to the year but when will we get freely assignable “ hardware inserts “ and a ping feature ?

I think it’s about that time now.

IMO hardware inserts work pretty good. I use them all the time. Is it something I am missing?

Oh boy. Let’s see. The fact I cannot use my Apollo twin with the hardware inserts because the I/o doesn’t match is PRETTY BOTHERSOME. Also the fact all the other DAWS does it and Protools still haven’t given us this is just dreadful. And the ping to auto compensate for latency.

i asked a few years and then a few months back and was told the same thing .. we will never see this feature in NON-HD pro tools .. i am another person that would love to see exactly as you mentioned .. i was told it could not be done or would be very hard due to Coding of PT .. who knows if that is true or not ..

"Apollo twin"
needs extra unused outputs matching inputs.

otherwise just setup i/o normaled.

The nature of inserts is to emulate a normaled connections.
i.e. #1 out over #1 in
An insert will always be additional I/O's from monitoring or in-use I/O's

So, conform to the intention is necessary.
Other than that, Patch. (Software Aux or Hardware)

Read this over and over again and don't understand...

For HD/Ultimate, the insert I/O have to be on the same channels too (HDX or not). No difference from regular Pro Tools.

Avid would have to change the whole way the matrix grid works for i/o to change this (like two tabs for Inserts)

I think the implication is that the current way it works might change at some point in HD. Either the ability to select insert inputs and outputs individually in the I/O menu (rather than as a set pair), or the implementation of a ping feature for hardware insert delay compensation.

whats hard to understand ?? Avid says they Will Never add this feature (Ping) to Non-HD .. pretty straight forward ... too bad actually !!

Insert you need additional i/o using avid hardware. Just like a patch bay used to be. It auto compensates for the round trip and works great. Just get another HD or 192 i_o for hardware inserts.

I have a 192 Digital with a couple of those Behringer ADA8200 hanging off of it. Works great for my hardware.

I think the system they have works well and has been good for years. Spend the r&d somewhere else.
