That's apparently what the Avid people have been saying. It doesn't surprise me because they have recommended Nehalem machines and above for HD Native as well. I have the same machine as you and I'm going to hold out till early next year to upgrade my 2008 Mac Pro when Apple does a refresh with new Intel processors.

Yes. Nehalem or later.

Where is this info?

http://avid.custkb.com/avid/app/self...p?DocId=422319

Doesn't mention it (though I realise it doesn't mention HDX cards specifically). I'm looking at upgrading very soon but will have to hold off if I need a new Mac too.

Found this -

So it seems PT9 HD Native was working on a Harpertown 2008 Mac Pro - so why wouldn't PT10 ?
I also thought HDX were/are modelled from the Native cards so why shouldn't those either ?

Running an HD Native on a Mac Pro 1,1 (Woodcrest). It won't keep up with newer machines obviously. For editorial it is more than fine.

HD Native will run on it. PT10 will run on it.

It's the HDX CARDS (hardware) that need Nehalem or later.

I really should have clarified the comment I made about HD Native in my post. That was based on an answer one of the Avid guys gave me back when they did the Filipetti interview in July. I asked him if HD Native would run on my 2008 Mac Pro, and he said it would but that it would be a better experience on a Westmere machine. I'm going to make my 2008 model work with HD Native until the Mac Pro refresh early next year. At that time, I'll make the upgrade.

Cheers for the answer - does that mean an HDX card will then?
