Recording... No (cannot see what chipset it has, needs the oxford chipset as this is the only one that digi certify. Worth getting right). A:)

Either D2 Quadra or Hard Drive Quadra have TI chips

I use a D2 Quadra 1TB personally.
a 500GB would be better but are harder to find these days. with 1TB it should be partitioned in 2 parts and use only one part at a time. This gives you the best performance. You can also order a drive from OWC http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firew...W800_FW400_USB

it prevents the head from having to retrieve data from all over the platter. Not really an issue with the smaller drives.
