Default DAT Transfer 32 khz Mistake

I made a mistake on a DAT recording with a setting of "LP" rather than 44.1 kHz. I assume that setting is 32 kHz and maybe 12 bits. When I transferred the file using ProTools though Mbox on a Mac, it automatically produced a 44/16 wav file, which has garbled sound. Is there a way to correct this mistake by upconverting to 44.1 kHz?

I'm on ProTools LE 7.1.1.

Thanks,
Matthew

If it were me, I think I'd just re-transfer everything into a temp PT session that matched the sampling rate and bit depth of the DAT tape (if doing a digital transfer) then import those audio regions into the real PT session & let PT up res them.

Or you could just do an analog transfer into the main PT session to achieve the re-sampling that way.

Maybe try a minute or so of each method & see which one you think sounds better...

Since LE sessions on the MBox can only be set up for sample rates of 44.1 and 48 kHz, you will need to tap the analog outputs on the DAT and go into the MBox as an analog signal. The only alternative I can see would be to rent an outboard SRC, but most of them don't take a 32 kHz sampling rate.

Thanks for the ideas. Before I give up on the digital method, is there an older version that supports 32K?

Thanks,
Matthew

you could go into the Workspace and change all of the header info to 32k then reimport into a 44.1 or 48 session

Thanks Craig. I'm still a little lost. I changed the header info from 44100 Hz to 32000 Hz, but it did not allow the bits to be changed from 16 to 12. Anyway, after that I created a new session at 44.1 kHz and 16 bit and imported the audio files. However, they still sound garbled, although they say they are now 44.1 kHz 16. Am I missing a step?

Thanks,
Matthew
