Default Clipping problems

Hi,

I have an M-Powered 7.3 system with an M-Audio Firewire 410 interface through which I've been recording lately. Last night I attempted tracking acoustic guitar tracks through my MindPrint pre and kept getting clipping noises, even though the tracks clearly were not peaking, either on the pre or in ProTools. At one point I tried inactivating some of the plug-ins, thinking it might have been a hardware buffer issue, but the clipping kept occurring. I was using both a condenser and tube mic on the guitar, which sounded great when it wasn't clipping.

Are there any thoughts on what could be causing this, or how I can prevent it in the future?

Lee

Which mindprint pre and how do you have it connected? If you are connecting digitally, are you setting the clocks properly to only use a single clock?

I'm using the MindPrint DTC, though I'm not connecting digitally. I realize now that the most likely culprit was the tube mic I was using -- I probably should have padded it down to -10DB. At least that's the most likely explanation from why I could hear the clipping but not see any peaking.

Thanks for your reply.
