Default 6.1.2 says: \"you have to restart your computer\"

Hello!

I just upgraded to 6.1.2 on a 1.2G(upgraded card) G4 running Panther with digi 001.

The upgrade went without error messages, but when I try to launch the program I get a dialog saying "You need to restart your computer" in five languages. Thus I´m unable to launch the program at all.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Hey Pessi,

What you're experiencing is a kernel panic which is usually caused by incompatible hardware. I'd check into that upgrade card.

Here's some helpful info on troubleshooting kernel panics.

Thanks for your reply. I checked that link you gave and the dialog seems to fit this example. However I found no logs of kernel panics and no other clues either.
I think that it´s because of the fact that I have a G4, 001 and Panther - a configuration not officially supported by digi. I was told that this would work anyway, but apparently it doesn´t.

Does anyone have experiences on this? Thanks a lot in advance.

If you're running Panther, you must be running Panther version 10.3.1 and Pro Tools version 6.2.2. You can get the OS update from the Apple site and the Pro Tools version from the Digidesign website.

Yep, I'm having the same problem. My computer is a Powerbook 667 DVI, 512K, running Panther 10.3.2, and just got my Pro Tools Upgrade for 6.1.2. I haven't even been able to start Pro Tools for the first time, I get that 'restart your computer' screen every time. I've tried trashing preferences, plugging and unplugging the Mbox. I've disconnected everything else too. As soon as I click the Pro Tools icon, the USB light on my Mbox turns on then it crashes. So it's something to do with that I suspect...

you must have 6.2.2 if you you are running PT on Panther. If you try and run any other version other than 6.2.2, you will get a kernel panic -- "you must restart your computer".

That´s so right.
I first installed 6.1.2 with the aforementioned results.
Uninstalled. installed 6.2.2. everything OK.

Thanks you all,

Pessi
