Ditto on the Hybrid series. H-Reverb is sure to become a staple in my effects rack if it holds up to its promises...and I'm sure it will!!

The 160 looks soooooo nice as well. I have far too many compressors as it is, but I can't shake this compulsion I have to give developers more of my money so I can have even more flavours!!!

... And alllllll the colors of the rainbow!!!

They're both great. And yes, they WILL be staples of your toolkit if you buy them :)

Since I started working with em, they started making it into my sessions... then more... and more, and more.... H-Reverb has become my go-to verb (Where not going on a ton of tracks... it is a bit CPU hungry... not horrible but it is certainly there, but I'm on a 3.2 Quad MP 5,1 with 32GB RAM, so you might smoke me....)

Tip - check that bad boy out on synths and really tweak it :)
Same on Bass.

I'll still use IR1 for some specific stuff.

The DBX 160 is stellar. Bass. Snare. Drum Buss. Parallel vocal. That's where I'm diggin it. I don't like it on lead vocal, but I don't like the hardware 160 on lead vocal either. (Again, a bit CPU hungry for me, but not terrible)

I will most definitely be WUP'ing for em :)

I've got an iMac Retina happening, with a 4.0 CPU, 24GB RAM, 4GB graphics card...

So anything utilising Open CL should be running across the cards as well. Not sure if PT, I remember reading Logic does, but that makes sense. Wonder if Waves is optimised that way??

So I think I'm on a similar system to you, less memory, but more CPU cycles, but then again the Mac Pro does multitasking better which should account for higher number of instances.

The DBX is a fast VCA so in theory it should work on most things, but if my memory serves me correctly, this is the version without the soft knee or OverEasy functionality. That might be a reason why you're not a big fan of it on vox.

Bass can be tricky to put reverb on, sometimes it's even best it's not to. So how were you using it on bass and how was it working for you??

Working pretty well for a touch of color, or driven more for edgy/gritty - and working well for bass in hip hop tracks with slammin kicks and 808's where the bass really needs to be just as present.

I like the sound that it gives... a bit edgy... I rarely use it on bass for rock (except hard core / death / screamer, works well there) or country, but for hip hop, rnb, pop, electronic, it works for my taste - but probably because it does some unnatural things to the bass (and that wouldn't sound good with lighter rock or country)

If you are working with something hard, maybe give it a go some time... get her set to where she's just getting a bit out of hand and also 'gritty' and then back her off a bit to taste. Sometimes I just can't get it quite right though.... the 160 is touchy - very true to the hardware

Hope this makes sense. It's kind of it's own monster. Might be hard to understand if you've never worked with a 160 or a 160 plug (that behaves like a real 160)

I always loved Waves TrueVerb and Lexicon LXP, but H-verb might beat the two, looking forward to try it.

And for 160, it's not even a question :)

You would think, Andy, that with all their experience, expertise and advances in computing, algorithms and DSP technology that if they were going make a new plugin it should, in theory, supercede anything that has gone before.

Unless you were after a specific classic vibe that you would get in a product like TrueVerb.

Makes me wonder if ther are supporting AAX DSP, or would prefer people to integrate DigiGrid/SoundGrid.

No way are Waves ever going to support aax dsp; been discussed ad nauseam here.
