Application Manager Performance

So I know a ton of people manually uninstall or disable startup of the Application Manager due to its massive drain on system resources (I for one have removed it from my startup items); however, I quite like the app manager's functionality and would like to see it brought to a stage where it becomes usable.

Therefore, I've submitted an entry to IdeaScale for fixing this. Would appreciate if everyone in support of this can upvote accordingly.

I know it's questionable how much value an IdeaScale submission actually has, but worth at least getting it tracked somewhere.

I'm also very much in support of the submissions for a setting to disable auto-start of the app too, but my submission is more focused around it behaving sensibly when I do open it.

So the description for the newly-released v17.7 of the App Manager mentions "...several stability improvements as well as bug fixes for high CPU usage and Sleep mode recovery."

Sounds promising.

Would be curious to get input as to whether anyone's seeing much of an improvement. I will be trying it out as well to see if they've made this a viable utility yet.

Version 17.8 is still a steady 3.5% on a 2.6GHz i7, even when it's idle and no other Avid apps are running (not to mention a combined 300+ MB of RAM for it and the AvidAppManHelper).

A bit better, but still ridiculous.

How often does this damn thing check for updates!?

Everyone's going to continue hating what should be helpful application, unless it stops hogging key system resources.

v17.7, 17.8.... are these Mac-only versions? Not seeing any update to 17.5 in my Avid Application Manager on PC...
