lots of files across multiple cds or dvds
I know I've seen an app for this, but I can't find it anywhere...does anyone know of an app that will split a large number of files between multiple cd's or dvd's? I have a session that's 15gig. I'd like to burn it to a few dvd's, but rather then splitting the files manually, ya know...hey, I'm not lazy, it'd be nice if the computer did this instead of me...

Look into Stuffit Deluxe... where you stuff the files into split stuffed files.
If it's really a lot of files - you may consider that it'll be cheaper in studio/engineering time to simply buy a FireWire drive. Rail

Re: lots of files across multiple cds or dvds
Stuffit Deluxe would probably take a long time to 'stuff' 15 gig into different segments. I was thinking some type of app that would simply split a single folder into smaller 650 meg folders, or 4gig folders...so i could then burn each of these folders to a CD or a DVD. I know there's an app out there, I've used it before, but I forget the name of it...any have any ideas?

Retrospect would be another option.. as long as you also send the storageset... and they have Retrospect on the other end.

Re: lots of files across multiple cds or dvds
If you have Apple's "Backup" software, which is free with a dot mac account, it automatically spans mutiple CDs or DVDs. The only drawback is that it requires internet access every time you launch it. Aside from that it works flawlessly.

Re: lots of files across multiple cds or dvds
I know of an App called "CD folder Partitioner" I think made by a French company. You set the Desired Size of the folders you want to create, Drag & Drop the Huge folder over the app and it automaticly divides it into several folders at the size (or very close to) you've pre-selected. It's a really great little program. If your burning backups to CD's it's a must have.

Re: lots of files across multiple cds or dvds
In Stuffit Deluxe you can specify "don't compress" so it's faster.
if you have Mac OS X you can use Disk Copy, and in the preference menu select the maximum size of a ".dmg" file; and it's a free software. JC |

Re: lots of files across multiple cds or dvds
Hello. Well here's another option for you guys. Buy a cheap IDE drive, it can even be a 5400 rpm drive, strictly for storage. They are very cheap nowadays. Get a 120 gig one for storage or smaller 40's, 60's, etc. Something to consider. Pricewatch has some EIDE 120 Gig drives for $87 bucks, 60 Gig for $55, 40 Gig for $47.
