Default PT 8 files issue

Hi everyone,
i've just finally upgraded a pair of pro tools to 8!

I'm running a PT8 cs3 on a Mac Pro.

I've just discovered that PT modifies the "modification date" on the audio files of the session you're running.

In PT7 this would never happen, except if you modify the audiofiles in some destrictive way.

Now it's happening all the time i even open a session....

This is not big deal, but does anyone knows why do this happen and if it's possible to control it (maybe for backup purposes) ?

thank you!!!

the files are being updated to 16 bit overviews (was 8 bit before) this is for the long requested ability to see the grid lines through and the peak/power view option

yea, it make for apain at the start but it's a good thing down the road

It's updating the modified date because Pro Tools 8 supports 16 bit waveform overviews and updates them in each of the audio files.

This is documented in the Pro Tools 8 Read Me.

thank you guys...
so if i'm understanding it the right way:

the "modification date" is modified only in sessions coming from PT7...
it shouldn't happen on new sessions created on PT8 right ?

That's correct - as long as those sessions are not importing audio that was created in Pro Tools 7. If you import audio that does not have the updated 16 bit waveform, Pro Tools is going to modify the file.
