OT - Buying PT 6.1 on eBay help.

I see a couple folks selling PT 6.1 for XP on eBay. Has anyone else done this? Are they legal factory copies is what I'm wondering and if I havn't registered my DIGI 001, will the 6.1 disk work?

And lastly, is it true that you HAVE to have an iLok for Waves pligins to work with PT 6.1?

uhm, i'm not too sure about the rest but if you have a Digi 001 you can get the upgrade to
PT LE 6.1 for free, no point buying (possibly illegal?? i don't know!) disks from ebay....

The upgrade from Pro Tools 5.x to PT 6.x is $75 - upgrades for 002 owners was free.

Waves plug-ins can use either challenge/response, or iLok.

Since the upgrade comes with BOTH XP and mac versions, my guess is the ones on eBay are the XP versions that some mac users are trying to recoup some of their money.
You won't be able to register it, but hopefully they will send you the authorization code!

You have to have a serial number to install Pro Tools LE 6 successfully. You then need that serial to register with Digi.. You also need to enter your serial to download 6.x updates. IT's a risk. I wouldn't do it.

Thanks for the replies. I was just wanting to try to get the 5.3.1 to 6.x cheaper than $75. Cheapskate? YES! Considering both the sellers on eBay with 6.1 didn't reply after emailing them about if the copies were legal or not, I assume NOT. Guess I'll pony up like the rest of us!

were free? Is it that just upgrades from say 5.x to 6.x, 6.x to 7.x (!!!!) etc have to be paid
for whereas upgrades within 5.x, 6.x etc are free?

dfusion, I bought my 001 years ago so I'm NOT eligable for the free upgrade.

These people that sell CDR's are unbelievable. As Tele Player said....SLIMEBALLS!

Usually all upgrade in the same series are free..i.e 5.0.1 to 5.1.1 to 5.3.1

But 5.3.1 to 6 or 7 cost.
