WHAT\'S THE DEAL WITH THE DP533 and 6042\'s???
another recent thread (http://duc.digidesign.com/ubb/Forum16/HTML/007956.html) on the 6042 errors relating to the new Dual G4's went unanswered by Digi.
WHAT'S BEING DONE TO FIX THE PROBLEM? IT'S TOTALLY LAME THAT DIGI IS BLOWING THIS OFF. I know THEIR software doesn't use the second processor (yet), but other App's I use regularly DO (including UNITY with Protools). Could we get an official position on the status of a FIX? Maybe consider REMOVING THE DUAL 533 G4 FROM THE "APPROVED" SYSTEMS? OR HOW BOUT FIXING THE F@#%#@* (did I spell that right?) PROBLEM? DIGI-PLEASE GIVE ME MY SECOND PROCESSOR BACK! Sorry about the shouting. I'm just frustrated by the "Blow off". Tim

Re: WHAT\'S THE DEAL WITH THE DP533 and 6042\'s???
I gave up on the DP and moved into a single processor G4/733 because of Digi's lack of participation in the previous thread.
It seems clear to me that Digi is working on an OSX presence - and, I beleive, that in that environment the dual processor tasking is handled by the OS itself and not the apps. If that is the case, it woulod make no sense for DIGI to spend the time on supporting an obsolted OS for a small number of users running on a Dual Platform. I dislike results that that logic brings ... but it's what I would do if I was DIGI. Granted that MOTU and emagic have got the dual platform native offerings taking advantage of the Dual Processor on MacOS 9.1 ... and the fact that they spent the time on it indicates that OSX is a long way off for anything real for us ... which again leads me to blow off the DP/533. But it was such an awesome dream to have Unity running on the second processor and PT 5.1 running on a stable MacOS 9.1 ... such a wonderful dream. I'm sure DIGI's lack of an answer is the answer ... forget the DP for ProTools ... or forget ProTools [and run MOTU DP 3.0] if you have a DP ... Again - I went with the 733 ... and PT 5.1 ------------------ T-
