Default Another pre-buy query

I'm a real neophyte, so please pardon my ignorance. My plan is simple -- to record up to eight tracks of acoustic guitar w/bass and make a CD. I considered getting a hard disk recorder, but heard it might be a better idea to check out Digi 001.

I have a laptop w/ Pentium III @ 600Mhz; 128MB RAM; 6G HD.

I can get Digi 001 w/ Kind of Loud Real Verb RTAS for $995.

Should I get it? Aside from mikes, instruments and material, what else does a beginner with a decent computer need to get started?

Any input appreciated. Thanks . . .

I’d get the 001 without RealVerb and put your money towards mic’s, monitors etc. You may find the included dVerb suits your needs just fine. You should post your question to the 001 PC/Windows boards - they can probably tell you better what you specifically need for your system than us Mac users.

My man...you will need a PCI slot for Digi 001 and, in all likelyhood, your laptop doesn't sport one. This obstacle will likely plague you with just about any high quality DAW.

Have to jump in- I'm running 001 with apple powerbook 400 and doing great. I use the Magma 2 slot expansion chassis with scsi ultrawide for the soundcard. Not sure if it works with pc. The folks at Magma could tell ya I think it's magma.com.

It has a Texas Instruments PCI 1410 CardBus Controller. Does this fit the bill?

Yes, you're right -- I re-posted to the Windows board -- thank you
