Default Real Life

I was wondering if anyone could help me with some tech info. I'm debating
buying a notebook (or powerbook) or a desktop. I really don't want to start a "Home
Studio" but I do want to work at home some of the time. My wife would
really enjoy that! But, I don't know how plausible that would be due to the
fact that I do not know how powerful powerbooks really are.
Meaning, how much can they really pull off? Could I open a full sessions of
lets say 24 tracks and then add processing and still be able to run vst’s
and lets say Reason, Ableton etc…? Or is my only solution getting a Desktop
and toting it around with me to different locations. The reason I need to
have it be mobile because I am on the road a bit and I would like to spend
my time while at home with my wife…so I would be mixing editing while traveling and
then recording drums and bigger pieces while in town at local studios. Is there any solution for
a situation like this? I hope this isn’t too lengthy? And I would really appreciate situations from people who are actually doing this. If you are currently doing something similar to my situation could you also let me know what your system set-up is?

Thank you in advance.

Check the best laptop thread stuck at the top of the page...lots of good info there. There are definitely several pc laptops out there capable of handling far more then what you mentioned...my brand new powerbook G4 doesn't come close to the raw power of the pc's...but it sure is pretty!

I've run my Toshiba notebook with a 002 and a Control |24 hooked to it... beautiful. You'll have absolutely no worries about power.

Your bigger concerns will be track count if you're coming from a TDM system and making sure mac/pc compatibility is checked if you'll be going between platforms.

There are some other small issues too but power really isn't one of them.
