Faders Not Working While Tracking

Hey all... first time posting here. I'm using protools 12 with a macbook (el capitan, i think) and behringer UMC 1820 interface.

The problem I"m having is this:
When recording, the fader does not affect the output volume of that track. So for instance, I need to turn the drum tracks up so the rest of the band could hear them, and I couldn't. I could only adjust the level going in.

also... for some reason, if I"m plugged in to my interface, the sound comes thru whether record enable is on or off....

I feel like I've tried just about every option in the preferences and I also tried the 'audio input monitoring' but still nothing...

Any ideas?

It sounds like you may be monitoring the XLR inputs instead of the Pro Tools outputs. On your interface make sure the Monitoring Mix knob is set to "PB 1-2" not "In".

Thanks for the reply. The mix knob has to be just about in the middle in order to hear the track being recorded and the playback of other tracks. Soon as it's turned all the way to PB 1-2 you can't hear the track being recorded.
