Default Runtime Crash C++ Visual...Help!!!!

Help!!! Please! I have tried uninstalling PTMP 7.4cs8 and reinstalling. I have removed all wrapped plug-ins, now using only well known plug ins (IK, NI etc) - still my sessions crash with the 'Runtime C++ error' and it quits the programme and then I have to reboot telling me that the application has 'terminated in an unusual way'. I have trashed all of the databases and Prefs (more times than I can remember) - but it still won't let me work.... Is this damaging my DAW?

Can anyone help me - I am getting close to losing my mind!!!

Thanks in advance,

Tony

Could you please post a list of your installed plugins using the Tech Support Utility?

Here are the steps:
  • Download the TechSupport Utility
  • Install it.
  • Run it.
  • Select "Generate List".
  • Find the "Pro Tools Version List.txt" file on your desktop.
  • Open it.
  • Paste the contents here.
It would also help to know exactly what other software is on the system, audio and non-audio.

See those zeros where the version number should be? That is an indication that this plugin is not a "valid" version. You need to make sure you have first, the real plugin that you paid for, and then the latest update from the IKMultimedia site.

I'm not sure why that doesn't have a version, but it should. You should make sure that is up to date as well.

This right here is most likely your problem. These shouldn't be here. At all. Something you have installed these here, when it shouldn't have. (probably one of those "invalid" plugins ). These definitely need to be removed, but you are probably going to have to figure out which of the "funky" plugins you have installed these. (I would honestly recommend uninstalling them all, but...)

Hmmm... another IKMultimedia product with no version number?

Dude... really?

Here's my advice; stop using "questionable" software.

Go to the IKMultimedia site, login to the user area, and download the updates for all of those IKMultimedia plugins of yours that have zeros as version numbers. If you cannot do that for some reason... well... you know...

I am absolutely amazed. All of this stuff was bought right from the IK store......from my own user area....! I know I am a novice but I would never buy any dubious software at all!! Everything I have has been bought direct from the manufacturer (in order to avoid problems exactly like this one....!)

I think I will uninstall everything again - and then download them again from my IK user area. I am devastated!!

In fact - Before I do that I will call IK and get their advice on this...... All of the Amplitube stuff seems just fine and that was done in the same way???

I am dumbfounded.....

Well Spkguitar - I went direct to IK as I said, who sent me this......

Dear tony

Thank you for your request.

As far as I can see you are indeed running legitimate versions of all our
products. I would suggest that you completely remove your Sampletank from
your PC, then download the newest version from our Tech Support page, User
Area. It is possible that older files are causing a problem.
In your ProTools, trying increasing the number of audio buffers in the DAE
settings, if this is set too low, some plugins can be unhappy.

regards

Paul K
PS. No need to remove the instrument library, just the plugin itself

So the paranoia you induced in me being some kind of rip off merchant was totally unfounded.......and I have no 'funky' plug ins at all. The zeros against their product does not represent a 'version' or 'valid' serial number at all.

It transpires that the problem may be my Fast Track Pro (USB 1.1) - and that upgrading to FT Ultra (2.0 USB) will rectify this problem altogether.....

And I got that advice without being accused of being a crook!!

So thanks again - for jumping to conclusions...

Curious, though, Paul from IK gave you essentially the same advice that I did:
Quote:

The older files that he is referring tocould mean any number of things. The 'zeros' are indeed the version number being reported by the plugin. If the plugin is reporting zeros as the version number, then there is something wrong with the plugin.

For what it is worth, my purchased, and more importantly, up to date versions of the same plugins show actual version numbers in those fields.

And it still doesn't explain the Microsoft runtime files that are in your plugin directory...

......although - curiously - sampletank, sonic synth, miroslav and csr are all the current versions from my user area?! All of my amplitube stuff was downloaded from the very same place - and indeed there are numbers where the zeros are. But the download of those above was done in exactly the same way.....!

So - I will let you know how I get on when my Fast Track Ultra turns up on Friday.

Sorry to be such a pain, and I do appreciate your input (just feeling a little defensive) - but I had really been trying to keep my DAW running as smoothly as possible by ONLY running bonafide software. I don't even run the ones you get free in Computer Audio Magazines!

Tony.
