new system - quiet case and cooling?
Hey all,
I'm ready to purchase the "under $600" Allenstein as listed in the best desktop thread. I've searched around and found what I'm thinking is a good quiet/relatively inexpensive case: the AcoustiCase C6607B. Any experience with this baby out there? I've also read all the links in regard to cooling and am not quite sure what to make of it all. I am not too keen on futzing aroung with overclocking at this point, since a.) I dont know what I'm doing, and b.) the 4400 is a monster compared to the Pentium 1.7 that I'm currently using. I am open to the possibility of OCing in the future if need be however, for now though, I think I'll be all set. So, AcoustiCase C6607B? and appropriate cooling? What ya'll think? Here's the plans with my Mbox: AcoustiCase C6607B? A8V motherboard for 64X2 Athlon 64 4400+ Dual Core Corsair Dual Channel Ram 1GB ATI Radeon 9600 128Mb DDR 8X Dual Video Card Western Digital 80GB 7200RPM 8MB CACHE Hard Drives Lite-On DVD/CDRW Dual Drive Thanks Much

Re: new system - quiet case and cooling?
Dump the stock cpu cooler and get a Zalmann 9500 or similar. They run really quiet. Look for quiet case fans if you can find them. I just put a fan controller in a drive bay and shut my case fans off for the most part and have not had any issues with my system.

Re: new system - quiet case and cooling?
I've used a brand of 120mm fans called "Nexus" that are inaudible. I've also used a enclosure for hard drives that they make called "Drive a Way" with great sucess, the Zalman coolers are excellent also. Other than a putting a speed controller on my cooler master Aquagate120 and video card fan my system is both silent and overcooled. The Nexus brand stuff really works as advertised.

Re: new system - quiet case and cooling?
Thanks for the input guy's. Albee, or anyone else, do you feel that compatibility might be an issue for me in these 939 dog days. I'm planning on keeping this rig for a very long time and am not one to constantly look for bigger, better, faster unless I'm dragged kicking and screaming into it. I also posted this in the best desktop threads and have heard back from Allen who's cutting edge opinion is to bush the whole rig and either go Quad or with the Mac notebook. Please note that I'm not a cutting edge kind of guy. I am just not interested and feel that soon enough the Quads will be a thing of the past as well. I compose and record when I can, and by the looks of things, spend much less time recording and mixing that a lot of folks spend in the DUC. I need quiet and it seems that the machine I have in mind will do the job nicely. Besides, I'm desperately itching to make my purchase - like yesterday, and can't imagine putting it off again for the sake of researching affordable state of the art systems when by the time I understand it all, something else will come about. Here's the specs again:
A8V motherboard for 64X2 Athlon 64 4400+ Dual Core Corsair Dual Channel Ram 1GB Western Digital 80GB 7200RPM 8MB CACHE Hard Drives X 2 AcoustiCase C6607B (Black) ATX Ultra-Quiet PSU, 560W 120mm Dustproof fan AcoustiFan(TM) Noiseless & DustPROOF Fan X 2 ATI Radeon 9600 128Mb DDR 8X Dual Video Card Lite-On DVD/CDRW Dual Drive Samsung 941BW Black 19”4 ms GTG widescreen As always, any input from the field is most helpful. Happy New Year all.

Re: new system - quiet case and cooling?
The computer your building will be light years better thasn your 1.7 P4 rig, Socket 939 is proven and stable and prices are dropping. While it doesn't offer the rich upgrade path of a socket AM2 or a Quad its a great deal cheaper. I'm sure you will be happy.
