Default analog consoles

How many of you guys use these?

You can't hook up a board like a 32x8 and use it as a full blown control surface for PT can you? You need a digital console for that?

(in other words, when you move a fader on the 32x8, the fader in PT won't move,)

Its set up like that at a studio I work at. Its nice...I would take it anyday over mixing with a mouse. I just track in PT, leave the faders at 0 and use the consoles faders/eq for the brunt of the mixing (Plugins for reverbs etc). It gets a little funky at times though, especially when switching from tracking to overdubs. The other problem is that your confined to how many outputs your particualr unit has (2/8/16 depending on lightpipe configuration). You can always submix in PT...but then it just gets too confusing.

I cannot mix with a mouse, and prefer hardware devices for dynamics and effects over plugins.

The 001 is actually a secondary device for us, adding an additional 32 tracks to the 24 main tracks of a Mackie HDR 24/96 Pro. Our console of choice is a Soundtracs SoloLogic 24x8x24 (56 inputs on mixdown) with VCA and Mute automation. We are currently looking into a controller for Protools, but currently mix between the mouse and console control commands.

Hope this is helpful.

probably a stupid question, I know, but I'm thinking of getting an analog recorder, and I like those Mackie 32x8 boards.

The PT control surfaces, unless it's the control 24, are a lot of money for the convenience of using faders instear of a mouse.
