PT lost communication with expansion HD!-DAE error 9161-crash

Hi,

Keep getting lost communication with expansion HD chassis then DAE error 9161 followed by a crash. i can reboot and it will work ok for a while so don't think its a physical connection problem? but i have checked everything and bought a new CAT6 cable incase.

A search on Digi found suggestions to up the HW buffer! but i got it almost immediately again.

I know there are some users with this chassis (Digidesign expansion HD/6) so is anyone else seeing this problem?

MacPro 8-core harpertown. 10.5.5 PT8cs1.

Hi Chris,

I have the same chassis, but using a Dual 2.5Ghz G5. I see this sometimes also (actually just yesterday I think). I somehow think it's plugin related, and specifically Waves or SPL - it also seems to surface when I'm working on a record with mixed session sample rates...like switching between 48k and 44.1 on my Big Ben.. Usually when I get this, it can be followed by other errors like "Digital Sync was lost", or "An access violation has occured", and then a "unable to preform close" when you quit. I find the only way to get around this is to do a full system reboot. Everything off, then chassis on first, followed by interfaces, followed by computer. Then I'm usually good until the end of the day / night crash free.
