Default 003 Doesn't see Presonus via ADAT

I have a brand new 003 that is replacing a fairly new M-Audio Profire 2626. With the Profire I had my Presonus 8 channel mic preamp connected via the ADAT port and all clocked and worked well (Presonus the master). I just moved the cables over to the new 003, did the software installs and I thought all was well. The 003 was fine and it played all my sessions normally. When I got to checking the ADAT I/O I could not get any audio from the Presonus into Protools. I set the Optical format to ADAT, the Presonus to the session SR and the Clock to Optical. Protools immediately gave the error "Not a valid clock signal" (sorry, not an exact representation of the language). There is simply no audio showing up in Protools via ADAT. There is an occasional click (clock error like), but that's all. So it seems that there is only 1 possibility: the ADAT optical input port on the 003 is bad. (I also see the "light" coming out of the Presonus ADAT port at the end of the optical cable, so I know that is active, and the M-Audio Profire still gets audio in Protools M-Powered from the same cable).

Any other ideas? I searched the forums and see that there have been a number of similar posts, but no resolution to most of them.

Sounds to me like you are going about it correctly. Is it possible that you don't have the lightpipe "cable" plugged in all the way?

Thanks for that point. I have checked that the cable is seated well. Just to be sure I just went back and reconnected the Profire and it gets clock and audio just fine from the Presonus. So it looks like I have a hardware failure of the ADAT port on the 003 right out of the box. I'll contact my dealer tomorrow to see about a replacement.

Just for clarity, and in case others might profit: the reason I'm dumping the Profire and bought the 003 is simply for Low Latency Monitoring mode. I tried to work with the Profire, but its lack of LLM is a deal breaker for me. I mainly lose 4 mic preamps in the bargain (and 1 RU extra taken in the rack by the 003).

Well, I've tried both 44.1 and 48KHz. Made sure the session SR and the Personus SR match. I think you should be able to set the clock to ADAT EXT Opticial, even with no session open. That exhibited the same problem behavior. Hopefully a new 003 box will fix it.

I've had this same problem with my 003 console running into a Motu 8pre via ADAT. I was extremely frustrated, but eventually somewhere online I found that turning the volume knob on the Motu actually seemed to somehow "activate" the signal from the Motu to the 003. Not sure if this is your problem or not, but worth a shot if you haven't tried. Hope this helps!

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for that info - but it didn't seem to matter if I rotated knobs on either device. Weird that that would do the trick, but hey - if it works for you that's what matters!
