....are you sure about that? I thought it gives you the option to choose during setup, but I'm not 100%, as I installed Pro Tools several months ago. Thanks very much for your advise though. If you're right, that changes things a little, because if I can't install Pro Tools anywhere other than on the C:\ partition, then perhapse a good SSD would be better! |

I have two SSD's. One as the system disk (128GB) running WinXP sp2 + PT8.0.1cs1. The other (64gb) as recording/session disk. I'v compared against regular sata disk, and the SSD disks I'v got are almost 10 times faster. Windows boot time with SSD takes about 10 seconds compared to over 70 on sata. PT launches in about 10 seconds. |

Re: Attention all Hard Drive experts....
Back to a previous question, ALL software(including Pro Tools) gets installed on the system drive. I personally like the WD Caviar BLACK drives, but would agree that any SATA2 drive should perform adequately. I'm not ready to jump on the SSD bandwagon(old habits die hard).

Re: Attention all Hard Drive experts....
I've just checked, and PT on my system is installed on the other physical hard drive, not C:\
Buying an SSD (or two) is extremely tempting, but with SATA 6Gb/s (formerly SATA3) just around the corner, not to mention USB3, I'm just not 100% sure if I should spend that kind of money right now. |

Re: Attention all Hard Drive experts....
Don't buy drives that are too big. A terabyte is a huge amount of data to lose if it fails, A huge amount to try and find a home for when it starts to fail and a day out of your valuable time waiting for it to copy! 500Gb is enough to ensure that a whole project can stay on the outside (fastest part ) of the drive. And both my Raptors failed (they don't like travelling).
