Default Multiband Compressors

I'm looking into getting a multiband compressor. It one of the few plugins types that I don't have in my arsenal. I don't have much cash to dole out, so my first thought was the Waves C4, which is in sale for $29. Are there other options that I should be looking into that are close to this price point?

I attempted to go with the free Xref OTT, but it offers very limited control. Its also the only free MBC in AAX format that I'm aware of.

Thanks.

I don't have any so I use TDL Nova, you can start with the free version, Waves C4 is awesome and OTT doesn't worth the trouble imho.

C4 has been a "go to" for years. Not fancy, it just works.

The AE400 is a dynamic EQ.

I have Nova; it's also a Dynamic EQ. I bought the Waves F6 (DynEq) during their end of year sale. I'm kicking myself for not grabbing the C6 instead. It's basically the C4 with two added DynEq channels.

Does anyone know if Slate makes a multiband EQ? I couldn't find one when I googled it. I've been thinking about grabbing their Everything subscription. I've never tried any of their plugs, but it seems like a great deal.. you get so many plugs. Gonna demo them starting this weekend to make sure it's not quantity over quality.

No but soon....

Couldn’t resist, I’m still waiting for his promise to fix FGX....(ok I’m not waiting, but still would like it)

The ML4000 is McDSP’s version and it’s nice (technically a Limiter but functions as a MBC too) . Avid’s MBC is really good also

But at the end of the day it’s hard to beat $29, unless you are looking for AAX-DSP.

Yes, I know. Just thought I'd mention it nonetheless.

Wait, Avid has a MBC? It doesn't come stock with PT, does it?

AAX-DSP is just for PT HD, yes? I just have regular PT 12.

Quite partial to Waves C6 as it's my most used multiband compressor. I also have the FabFilter Pro-MB. Not inexpensive and not easy to wrap one's head around but it can do really nice things to the sound when needed.

An oddball that's both an active EQ, compressor and multiband compressor is the HOFA IQ-EQ. To get multiband compression with it after I've split the bands as I want them I pick a frequency in the middle of the band and use a very wide Q. Kind of a hack but it works (for me). The reason I have it is it's my go-to for active eq.

It does not come stock.

But it is native and DSP. And yes, it's quite good. All of Avid's "pro line" are really good clean digital tools.
