Unfortunately, I have had issues with Guardian Angel on multiple computers, some with 10.12.6 and PTU 2018.7 or 2019.5, and most recently on my home setup with 10.14.6 and PTU 2020.5. I have always made sure the app has access in Security&Privacy->Privacy->Accessibility as well as trying giving it Full Disk Access. Suppress Warning is off. I had a fair bit of back and forth with the developer when I started trying to use it about a year ago. Neither of us could figure it out. I wonder if its a random OS setting somewhere, like something to do with Spaces?

I just tested this again. Manually removed Guardian Angel from Accessibility and Full Disk Access, deleted the app. Trashed PT prefs, emptied the trash, restarted. Redownloaded Guardian Angel. Manually added it to the security prefs, rebooted, launched GA, then PT, and still nothing. Tried launching GA before PT and after. Confounding.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but the bottom line is that Avid needs to fix this.

Also, the worst part is that if you are using Write to Selection on Stop instead of Manual Write to Selection, there is no warning at all.

To add to the previous posters, this is a problem even if you make a selection after you start transport. The only way this doesn't write across the entire session is if the selection is made before starting transport.

We've been asking Avid for years and years.
It seems they have their own priorities and things that aren't flashy and just essential workflow improvements don't fall in to that category.


Third party programmers fill in the gap with apps like Soundflow, Guardian Angel, Conformalizer and others.



I used The Guardian Angel for ages and it was a lifesaver, thanks Bernhard.
Now Soundflow has a similar function in its write to selection function, so I use that instead. Works great.


By the way I agree with Frank's implementation if they do ever fix it.
Write to selection with selection - no warning, write to selection with no selection - write aborts!

YES ! please make it happen!

it stresses me so much all day, did I make a selection before playing or did I make the selection at all ?
I always end up stopping the playback and redo my selection just to be sure cause I'm scaaared

Also for those of us who have S6, sometimes the selection is quite slow because of the 'Attention most recently clicked daw area' ticked for a lot of parameters and if you drag your mouse too quickly, it doesn't even make a selection ... :/

so yeah it's 2020, time to do this :)

Also disable 'Y' that throws stuff to start of session (who uses it anyway) and disable 'Enter' that takes us to the start of session. Who uses it as well?

Avid, please, add an option so that "write to selection" never write the entire session !!


I have lost hours with this "feature" !!
