Default Bounce To Disk now Crashes my system ??

My setup: 9500 with Newertech G3/400 card, 352 Mb Ram, 2 ext. 9 gig Seagates @ 7200 controlled by Adaptec 2940UW. I recently upgraded to Mac OS 9.0.4 from 8.6. Bouncing to Disk now consistently crashes, freezes system 1 to 2 minutes into the song. SCSI audio drive indicator light gets stuck "on" like it's some kind of transfer problem. Any thoughts ?? Thanks
