Default PT M-Powered + Alesis Multimix12USB

I'm have a problem recording my vocals in Pro Tools.

I have my M-Audio 2496 outputs running to my Alesis Mixer Input.

I also have my Mic In on my Mixer.

When I get ready to record audio, the beat is recorded with the vocals. Can someone help me with my setup. How can I set my equipment up to where I can record vocals without the beat behind it. Do I need another pre-amp or can I use my current setup. Any help is useful. Thanks a lot.

everything is on it's own track. I would create a new track for my vocals and before I record I would test my levels and the track sounds will jump in the track I have for my vocals. Or if you could suggest something I could use with my M-Audio 2496 to record my vocals with that would be find also. My mixer is for my MPC anyways, but I had to hook up outs from my soundcard to my ins on my mixer to be able to hear anything through my headphones. Any help would be great

Assign the vocal channel(s), and nothing else, to alt 3/4 on the mixer.
Connect the alt 3/4 outputs from the mixer to the line inputs on the 24/96.
Now any channels assigned to the alt 3/4 busses will be recorded and any assigned to the main mix will not.
Using the switching matrix on the headphone/main section of the mixer should allow you to hear everything.

Hope this helps,
Jack
