Safe? From what? Baby is affraid of hackers getting in your studio computer? Very unlikely. Sorry for spoiling something that would bring hollywood-like excitement to your life - "ooohh I'm important enough to be hacked!". Sorry, you're not. Even if you had enough security holes.

Plus, you're wrong. Vista was just released. By now it has a LOT more security holes than XP SP2. You should read digg.com

I'm sorry I don't get this.

Is Vista offering an amazing new sound subsystem with better quality? no

Is Vista offering better application and games performance? no

Is Vista more stable than XP SP2? no

So why switch? Please tell me, I guess someone here knows something I don't!

Well maybe because we all can't build computers like bill gates?

Well maybe because we would like to purchase a new computer that works with PTLE.

Well in my case, maybe because my 2002 pentium 4-m 2.0 ghz is falling apart?

Sometimes switching is not by choice. So what about the musicians who are not computer inclined & can't build a computer from the ground up? Why can't we have higher expectations?

Why is it that DAW software supposedly lower on the totem pole of audio recording are already Vista ready but not the industry Standard Pro tools? I use FL studio , reason...etc.

I understand it takes time for PTLE to accomodate a new os. But TELL THAT to all the stores out there selling computers. And I prefer not to buy a vista computer and install XP because these new computers have new configurations, cpu's, and set-ups and it will never be the same ever. No matter how long you tediously download all the XP drivers so you can make it work on a Vista-made OEM computer. Some of these computer parts are enhanced by Vista. Why degrade overall performance.

The fact is, Vista is sold on every new computer THAT HAS THE SPECIFICATIONS your interested in.

This is the whole problem in a nutshell.

not at all, spec out the system your self and you can still have XP. those pre build systems often have compatability issues anyway.

Damn... digi is already talking about it? I dont get it, what the hell. Vista is a total failure, what benefits does it have? It's slower!

I just hope digi will continue supporting Pro Tools for windows XP. My laptop is slow enough running pro tools on XP.

Year and a half ago this was a top of the line machine. I don't understand how the hell software engineers did good software 4 years ago if now they need to suck all available resources to do simple tasks.

I'm not a unix geek or anything, but instead of Vista wouldn't it be wonderful if Pro Tools supported Linux? Why not?

If Digi is so ready to work vigorously on Pro Tools for Vista, it shouldn't be a problem of lazyness to also port it to Linux.

I can already imagine digi totally ignoring this post, for their own convenience...

How ridiculous would that be? If the majority of the market is made up of manufactuers who make Vista capable computers and the vast majority of stores are selling them. Why would Digi want to make PTLE Linux ready when they can't even keep up with making it MCE ready ( won't happen here ). They are still trying to make it Intel 2 core capable. The MARKET rules in a capitalist society.

Moreover, call it innovation and moving forward. If people want to use Windows 98 and stay with an old PTLE set-up for instant, it's their choice. But when my computer breaks down, I prefer Digi support an OS that is sold on the majority of the computers at my local store.

And how is resources a problem? Nobody needs to upgrade their computer to Vista if they dont want to.

The people who don't like Vista, thats fine. But I am sure these are the same people who wanted to stay at Windows 98 when XP came out. So why wouldn't these same people just use Windows 98 all along for the past decade? Because eventually we all need new computers. And every new computer that comes out every 6 months is technologically more superior. So it would be ridiculous to wanna stay with an old OS ( downgrade to XP to let PTLE work for example ) when these new Vista computers can easily handle them. Its called PROGRESS.

But with these Intel 2 Core computers, which Vista will take advantage of, LOW RESOURCES is not a problem. Who plans to use 70-100 dverbs? I am happy with a few dozen plug-ins.
