What does «critical update» mean?

Hi,
Pro Tools 9 updater told me there's a «critical update». Does that mean it is an important update only?
Or does «critical» mean I should avoid installing it because some of my system components are out of date?

I'm not a native speaker and unsure about this wording.

Does that mean it is an important update only?

Yes, it means that there are important fixes in the update that are recommended for all users.

The notification does not automatically install the update when you click on the link.
It takes you to the notification page, where you would see something like this:
