Default VI's playback latency hell.

Hi everyone. I'd like to know if there's a way to have no latency on virtual instruments while recording on Pro Tools 10 software (not HD). It's just unbelievable that at this point it still has this problem. Lets say I'm programming drums, well, every time I go into record the delay compensation just goes to hell and it practically impossible to play and record other live or MIDI tracks even if low latency monitoring is activated and a small buffer size is selected.

iMac 2.66 GHz, Intel Core i5, 4GB RAM, OS 10.8.4, PT 10.3.5, Digi 002 Rack.

yea this is a problem with midi & live audio in PT...even HD.

If I am understanding your question:

hit command +2 (brings up 'session')
then see where it says 'system delay'...thats the number youll need
then in 'Global MIDI Playback offset'...found under the 'event' tab...enter that delay number as a negative value

depending on what VI's you use, if you have vienna ensemble pro running, what buffer...it will keep changing so as long as you stay on top of it...you should be good.

hope that helps

Awesome tip! Thanks a lot. I have moved the Global MIDI Offset value before but I wasn't aware that in "session" there was a system delay. Thanks again : )

very happy to report, it seems as if this issue is resolved when using PT11HD and VEPRO 5. Just downloaded 11 today and ran a few tests. everything stays in place (timing wise)

the latency is working as it should and no manual midi offset is required.

im running 10.8.4 and pt 11.0.1 with the most recent VEpro software

hope this helps!

Just wanted to concur that midi in PT10 is a bit complicated. I have to shut ADC off when printing midi track parts to audio, or they get placed early in the timeline. Instrument tracks seem to be compensated for correctly.

PT11 seems to be all good in the midi department. Now if we only had some VI's to use...

"...had some VI's to use..."

Papen, UVI (Newest update), Spectrasonics, Toontrack*, Rewire64 (Reason, Free-Bidule for NI stuff) all working well here in 11.
*Superior Drums crashed once since i've had it came out, but only once.
Offline for printing.
Note there are some offline issues regarding midi control like mod wheel and such so check your bounces. Use traditional Bus to track when needed.

I find it hard to stay in 10 now. and most types of tools are available.
