Re: HELP!!! formatting Firewire drive
Select the drive.
Toggle "Special" on your toolbar and choose "Erase Disc". This will format the drive with Apple Drivers, etc. This procedure is very quick.

Re: HELP!!! formatting Firewire drive
I format firewire drives all the time and I've never seen it show up under drive setup, not even in 9.2.2. I always use the "Erase Disk" function that was stated earlier.

Re: HELP!!! formatting Firewire drive
I use ERASE DISK as well. Don't worry about it not showing up in the Apple Utility. ERASE DISK does the same thing.
When you first plug in a firewire drive that is NOT formatted at all, the system will ask you from the desktop if you want to initialize it. This is the same thing as well, as far as formatting goes.

Re: HELP!!! formatting Firewire drive
Ah...this post just gets better and better...from schizo's SCSI nightmare (and mine) onto fireware feck ups all round....
Tell me this Digidesign: Why don't you just "APPROVE" ONE drive...(varying GB sizes) ONE SCSI CARD....ONE MAC OS.....ONE set of firmware... one format of drivers. Just "approve" stuff that has REALLY been tried and tested....then we would know that we are spending our money on stuff that actually does the job......... making music, wasn't it?? bitter and twisted (additional costs after protools...disk warrior..new cable...new drive....new card....lots and lots and lots of wasted time...............) |

I have a new firewire drive, Oxford911, IBM 80gig 7200, and apple drive setup tells me that this drive is not supported. Tekserve here in NYC told me it was Apple formatted from the get go. What is the procedure to get this drive reformatted again. - It has to be trust me? |

Re: HELP!!! formatting Firewire drive
What OS version are you on?
What Version of DriveSetup are you using? Find the latest at Apple. Drive Setup works perfectly.
