Default Re: Kernel Panic with Mbox2 USB

MacbookPro Core 2 Duo 2,33 2GB RAM 10.4.10 Mbox2 mini. Do you need more precise info?

And while we're at it, maybe the fact that 1 out of 3 times I plug my Mbox, my computer freezes is related?

BTW guys, I'm very happy someone from Tech Support is taking care of this issue. Sorry for my precedent thread, I figure I needed to vent a little...

MCP 2.33
2 gig
160 hd
256 videp

Yes closing Safari is one issue, for me another is just shutting down OSX. Both have saused regular panics.

I am on OSX 10.4.10

PTLE 7.3.4cs now and with Mbox 2 firmware 1.43 and I seem to have had only one crash recently which is less than before.

Default Re: Kernel Panic with Mbox2 USB

Ok, I just did the EFI upgrade on my MBP and thought that maybe this would fix the problem (one can dream, isn't it?) The problem is still there. It is very easy to reproduce the kernel panic. Simply plug the Mbox2 Mini, use it with any software, unplug it, open Safari and then quit Safari. As soon as I do the Command-Q to quit Safari, there's a kernel panic. Here's the crash log, seems very similar to Jimmy's one:

Default Re: Kernel Panic with Mbox2 USB

I have an Macbook Pro, 2 months old
2.2 Intel Core 2 Duo
OS 10.4.10
2 GB RAM
running PT 7.1.3 with the mbox fix (713r2 or whatever)

worked a lot in 2 months with Mbox 2 Pro coming off the FW bus, some annoying buffer underrun problems, but nothing else.

I'm on the road at the moment and tried plugging in a friend's mbox mini to the USB, instant kernel panic, every time, both USB ports, before even launching Pro Tools. It was also the first time I'd used WiFi on this machine, and heard that might be related, but no change when I turned it off. Never saw this issue before, and (so far) have not had it at any of the other described times, like quitting Safari or using other USB stuff. (I run other stuff off the USB at home (printer, mouse) while Mbox is on the FW, no problems.

Would like to fix, though not as crucial for me as the rest of the class...

Any updates on this problem? It's been a while since anyone from digi mentioned anything. Any updates would be appreciated. Thanks!

Default Re: Kernel Panic with Mbox2 USB

Get Memtest OSX ($1.39) and run it on your Mac Memory.
Sounds bad if applications are crashing.

Also, if you can bring your system to a Guitar Center or Digi dealer and quickly swap their Mbox2Pro with their's, or 003 or firewire device and see if it's just your Mbox2P or not.

And for everyone else that is still on 10.4.10 that is unsupported and WILL cause Kernel Panics with USB devices, so UPDATE to 10.4.11 or revert to a supported OS version such as 10.4.9 with 7.3.1cs6 OR 7.4cs2
