Default MIDI Piano Roll "Greys Out"

Hi. I am trying to do some stuff with MIDI which I haven't done a lot of and I keep running into a problem where the piano roll "greys out" and doesn't trigger the VSTi. It almost looks as though the track has been de-activated but it has NOT. The controls on the left side of the track are NOT greyed out. Everything works fine then it doesn't. Any suggestions?

Is the MIDI Output Assignment valid? Corresponds with the Plug-in you are using? Also try re-inserting.

I have run into this too. If I delete the track and open another, the exact same method, it will be fine. HUH?
I will hit ctrl+shift+N Dialog opens start stereo or mono inst track and it will be greyed out. Try putting a VI on it and my controlers won't recognize it and it stays greyed. Then if I delete the track and start over it usually will be fine.

the assignments are pretty straight-forward. i'm just using xpand and hybrid. right now i can't even create a new instrument track without it being greyed out...also when i import a midi file all the midi tracks are greyed out. is this one of the reasons why everyone makes fun of pro tools' midi implementation?

It may still happen.. I and a few others have had this issue. The workaround that we have used is to mve the VI from one insert slot to nother, and sometimes back again. MOST of the time that works, but not always. Sometimes I've had to create another track and movethe notes/VI to there for it to work.

Good luck
