Default freeze when adding tracks

this is an all-of-the sudden problem, started yesterday but now it's permanent.
using mBox with all the newest bits 5.2.1 etc. G3 pismo 500mhz, 1G ram, it all worked fine til recently.
now if i try to open a session and add a track it freezes. sometimes i can start a new session, add a couple, but then adding a master fader freezes it.
many times it freezes on startup when building the windows (in fact seems to freeze on building the status window...)
just ran norton, techtool, rebuilt desktop, pram etc..
ummm...?

Default Re: freeze when adding tracks

If you haven't already done so, trash the DigiSetup File, Pro Tools preference, and DAE prefs (the entire folder) from the System Folder>Preferences folder. Empty the Trash and restart the Mac.

If the freezing persists, reinstall PT LE. But first, trash the following items before running the installer from the PT LE CD-ROM:
from Hard Drive:
-------Digidesign folder
from System folder:
-------DAE Folder (remove all third party plug-ins and custom presets)
from Control Panels folder:
-------Digidesign®
from Extensions folder:
-------DigiSystem INIT
-------Digidesign Direct I/O
-------Digidesign DSP Manager
-------Digidesign Stream Manager
-------Digidesign USB Driver
From Preference folder:
-------DAE prefs
-------DigiSetup
-------ProTools preferences

Default Re: freeze when adding tracks

thank you thank you. here i was thinking it was some bigger problem.
i should have rememebered all that from when i was working at studios in the film post-audio worls in LA, had to toss those files every other day.
i believe my problems came about from the fact that i have a couple applescripts to switch the digi sys init and dae so i can use either 5.2.1 or PT Free on the laptop, so i get two sets of PT prefs.

works again now!
