The last half year I had a look around to replace SD II on my system because digidesign still is not willing to relaunch it. I did not find an accurate substitute for my 'good old DS II' to make the editings for my radio show in the same easy way.
But I found a very fine program, that may be on the best way to get a substitute of SD II. It's called 'spark'. Some important functions of SD II are not built in yet but I was told they will be avaylable as soon as possible. Have a look on: http://www.tcworks.de/

Well the way I use them, PT is the multitrack, SDII is the mastering deck. I have managed to lose my last install of SDII 2.8.1. Can I get one somewhere? Since Digi no longer supports or sells this software, is there a source for an unlimited install copy?
(shall we say "cracked")

SDII Forever !!!!
I'll keep a machine that will run it as a seperate station
because as weird as it seems, SDII is the most intuitive 1 & 2
track editor I have. Nothing else compares. I can screw up as much as I
need to and go back to my untouched audio again and again. Just give it a few new algorythms and she'll be ready for another 15 years!

I too have used SDII for the last 4 years. SDII is still the program that I use most for editing Vocals and SFX tracks by far.Not to mention recording vocals. I am wondering if since there is no further programming done for SDII will this mean that SDII will die a sudden death when computers and operating systems no longer comply with the code for SDII. This would be a darn shame. Digi..think about it, and decide wisely. SDII has probably the most users than any other sound editing program world-wide.

Well, I see that SD is no longer even mentioned on their website. But once again I will say that this program is the only Digi program I want. PT is ridiculously bloated and overpriced compared to all the new stuff out there. I also have MLCD and it is just ancient. I bought Sample Cell, unfortunately, just before all the new soft samplers came out and am not happy - again, overpriced, ancient and underfeatured - stuck with 32 meg of ram. Can you say Gigasampler? Sell the damn SD code to someone who wants it and/or roll it into MLCD and get that into the 90's, er, I mean the 00's. Even if you cut the price in half I would not buy slowtools as you have so little regard for your customers. You tell us why you won't sell it to someone who wants it. And don't say it's because your new stuff is better. If nothing else, give us a driver for the MANY other interfaces (MOTU, KORG, etc) available. Practically every software in the world can use SD files but the program that originated them has passed away. Ironic? And drop all that stupid copy protection crap.

I think someone that could help bringing back SDII from death is APPLE. Maybe they need to read this posts and realize that many users are not gone buy g3 or g4 only why they can not use their favorite software.
It is a shame how ignorant is digidesign towards users und one of the best music software in the world. They talk about costs and that there is no market... I am sorry but protools is expensive enough to make some risk maybe invest some money in developmnet and maybe, way not lose some money. But at the and this is not losed money. You gone have back your old users and among them some new protools users. Not to mention how can profit apple from this too. Maybe you want that sd dies and people buy protools as "ultimate solution". Protools is beutifull program, but it needs much more to replace sd. By the way Mac is not anymore superior in the music industry. Today you can deliver decent work with PC. And there are alternatives on this platform (Wavelab, Sound Forge, Cool Edit pro). Sound Forge (with cd architekt) delivers exacly the combination of SDII and MLCD. Wavelab too, even more (realtime FX and now multitrack), and a top of all you can use any hardware you can possibly imagine, you are not dependig on digidesign cards and dsp chips!

Consider this as a good advice Digidesign. When you do not do something soon your gonna lose gorund under the feets. Dont let others take your market, you deserve it and do something to preserve it for you.

After almost a year since I was forced to give up SDII, I still find myself frustrated when I need a simple 2 channel editor. None of the currently available products are as bullet-proof as SDII was.

Maybe marketing should survey it's userbase about this subject. How many users would it take to buy into this update to make this a worthwhile venture for Digi? Hell, I'll pre-pay for my copy!!

Probably just beating a dead horse here..
