Default Virtual Katy

Hi there, if the video editor decided to make a change to the length of the video whilst I am mixing it, ie the last scene has a few more seconds of video and audio, will the only option be to install Virtual Katy?

If not how can I keep my current work whilst adding his changes?

Thanks for this!

Virtual Katy is not a requirement for something as simple as extending one shot. If the editor supplies you with the exact amount of footage added to the sequence, you can just move all your material after the cut point down the required amount. As long as 'Automation follows edit' is checked all your mixing should follow.

If many cuts/additions are made to a seq then Virtual Katy is definitely a time saver.

My vote to Conformalizer! Best and least expensive.

My vote is to do it manually with a new ref video if the fix is simple.

I agree, if its a few edits, do it by hand.
Get a reference video, and a reference audio track from the editor, then phase it into place.
Dont forget to set 'automation follows edit"

Conformalizer is your next option.

Quite frankly the best option is the manual option. I say this because getting change notes from assistant picture editors is a dying art. We've given up and we conform every episode of NCISLA. Just learn the art of putting your old cut Guide track against your new Guide and cut when it goes out of sync. Most of the time you can see it visually between the 2 waveforms. Old school though it may be, we've found this is the most trustworthy method, with all due respect to the many helper change note apps out there.

Another thing you can do is cut picture with PT 7.x +...we work in PT8. We often get late arriving picture inserts that may insert or delete time. With a little bit of cutting you can paste the new insert right on the existing picture track. Trust we've done it many times this season. Comes in handy at the last minute and also lets you confirm any sync questions visually that may not be quite right in the Guide track...yes that does happen

This is pretty much why PT is the 800 lb. gorilla.

Don't think you can beat Conformalizer in a regular occuring recut scenario.
