Default Sync IO vs. Sync HD?

So I've noticed that the local dealers are now carrying the 'Sync HD'... Also, my order for multiple Sync IO's just came in today and to my surprise they are Sync HD's. I can't find any mention on Digi's main site about these. Is this just a new name or is there any actual difference in the hardware? I'd like to know before I open these boxes:) Someone at a local dealer mentioned that there was in fact a difference in that this unit supports tri-level sync, which I imagine is to assist in HD video workflows... Still, I wonder why I've seen zero mention of this unit...

There's no difference in IO/HD except the slight cosmetic changes like the badge on the front now says HD instead of IO. And something's changed in the LED panel also.

This update didn't introduce any new features regarding HD video etc., either...

Actually I did finally open one of the boxes and the Video Ref input now says 'Video Ref SD/HD' so I believe the local sales guy's comment about it now supporting tri-level video sync was correct. Not sure whether or not the Sync I/O supported this already or not... The label for the 'Digital' clock source has now been changed to 'Word/AES' as well. Back panel looks exactly the same.

From what I have been told, the boxes are different (not just cosmetically).

Support for Tri-Level being the most significant.

That's what I've gathered as well but it still doesn't make sense to me that Digidesign would make no mention of this new box despite the fact that it is shipping and seems to have replaced Sync I/O's entirely. I'm not even sure you can still purchase Sync I/Os at this point...

Sync IO isn't available anymore for new orders.

And at this time there are no added HD features, as I said previously. Perhaps a firmware update is just around the corner to enable it though

The SYNC HD was developed for several reasons.

The SYNC HD is RHoS compliant (new EU requirements for electronics).

The SYNC HD will support tri-level sync in the future with a yet to be released firmware update.

Will this future firmware can also be applied on the SYNC I/O Generation?
Or do we have to follow the...usual exchange path?
